about

This is a text written to be recited live as part of a performance piece. It is inspired by Israeli and Finnish poetry that speaks of home.

lyrics

Home is Where?

Where is it that I put down my head
Where is it that you are?
Where the song from the river reaches my ears;
Where a fog wraps the valley, where security is new and war is old.

Wherever my creations are
this is where home is?

Do I look for the moon
or would it be mercy
in which safety lays?
Do I long and lust for land
or is that where the monsters hide?
I would like to touch with the language,
feel the comfort in the back of the mouth.
I would like to soak in the visions of weather,
see the magic and majesty of woods, of fire, of sand.

Wherever in my mind time is still and land does not change
this is where home is?

What about a boundary of belonging
or a border of state inside my body?
What about the curve of a hug
in an impossible being off-land, off-time.
Does a country exist if we do not fill it, if we do not feel it?
Does the tension of a body falling change if it falls down where it grew up?
What about a translation of a sigh or a disappointment,
can you offer me that with a Visa?
What about the path of shadows, the bright yellow light
creating a mark on the skin in the shape it shines through.

What about the heroic action of facing reality by the light of a different moon, in a place where I am not, in a place where I can not.

Wherever silent moments bring dreaming other places
I lost sight of what home is.
